Academic Editing Services

medieval-scribe

I offer English-language editing for scholarly writing in the humanities and related fields. My work is especially suited to manuscripts that engage complex arguments, theoretical frameworks, or interdisciplinary approaches.

Many of my clients are scholars writing in English as a second language. I work closely with each text to refine its clarity and expression while preserving the integrity of the author’s voice.

Editing, in this sense, is not only a matter of correctness, but of bringing language into closer alignment with what it seeks to express.

Journal Article Editing

I provide editing for articles intended for submission to international academic journals.

This includes attention to:

• clarity and coherence of argument
• stylistic consistency and tone
• grammatical precision
• alignment with expectations of scholarly English

Where appropriate, I also offer light feedback on structure and flow to help strengthen the presentation of the argument.

Dissertation & Thesis Editing

I work with doctoral and graduate writers preparing dissertations or theses in English.

My role is to help bring the writing into a clear and readable form, particularly when the argument is already well developed but requires refinement in expression.

This often involves:

• smoothing sentence structure and transitions
• clarifying complex passages
• ensuring consistency across chapters
• preparing the manuscript for submission or review

Book Manuscripts & Proposals

I edit scholarly books and proposals, particularly in the humanities.

Given the length and conceptual scope of such projects, this work often proceeds in stages. I can work with individual chapters or sections, or with the manuscript as a whole.

My focus is on maintaining conceptual clarity across extended arguments while refining the language at the level of the sentence.

Humanities & Theoretical Writing

I bring particular experience in working with texts that engage philosophy, critical theory, literary studies, and related fields.

Such writing often requires a different kind of attention—not only to grammar and style, but to the movement of thought within the text. My aim is to support that movement without simplifying or flattening it.

Editing for International Scholars

I regularly work with writers whose first language is not English.

In these cases, editing involves more than correction. It is a process of making the text communicate effectively within an international academic context while retaining the distinctiveness of the author’s voice.

How I work

Most projects begin with a short sample (1–2 pages), which allows me to understand the nature of the writing and the level of editing required.

Editing is typically done using tracked changes and comments, so that all revisions remain visible to the author.

If you would like to discuss a project or send a sample, you are welcome to get in touch by email.
